Ludo Van Muysen
After completing a nursing diploma and 6 months practise in Belgium, I left with my backpack to explore Scotland.
I discovered Balnakeil early in my travels, but moved on to do various jobs around Scotland. From 1988-1991 I studied woodwind instrument repair at Stevenson College, Edinburgh.
I moved up to Balnakeil to set up my business 'Woodwind Workshop' and I now do a lot of woodwind repair work for the highland region.
I taught myself woodturning....I really enjoy doing large pieces, allowing the natural irregularities in the wood to become features. I turn local and regional woods, and prefer a solid chunky look rather than an over finished effect.
I turn mainly large sculptural bowls, candlesticks and salad bowls .My work is not available to purchase online.Visit us in Balnakeil to view my current work. The gallery is usually open from April to October. Contact us to make sure.
